Why Do We Teach?

As all teachers know, the focus in the early grades is on teaching basic learning skills. About fourth grade, a switch begins. It’s concrete knowledge that starts to take over. By college that’s what learning seems to be all about: piling more and more information into the brain.

“Why do I teach? “ asks college professor Gary Gutting. He makes a simple point that needs to be considered more. Much of his answer is pertinent for all teachers at all levels.
